In today’s hectic modern life, we often forget the value of being fire safe. How many smoke detectors do you have in your home? When was the last time you got the batteries checked? Have you tested the smoke detectors recently? Smoke Detectors are one of the most common and important items in being fire safe. Having a physical fire safe is also a good practice. If your house was damaged in a fire, what would happen to your belongings? A fireproof safe can protect all your valuables and help you feel more secure in case of a fire.
We often forget the little things in life, but fire is no little matter; so be prepared.
Why did my trip over the fire hose in the house and get injury caused them to no longer welcome us to the fire department. She was so clumsy that we had to take her to the hospital by ambulance. It was so unfair to her that I was going to stop hanging out with her after this was all over. I am so happy be there with the rest of the staff because she would have flipped if I would have told her to her face. She broke her arm and that is sad, but our friendship is over.
It’s important to keep yourself and your belongings safe from fires, though you’re obviously more important than any material thing you may have. You can do many things to help with this like learning all you can about fire safety and making sure you have the right equipment. You should have a fire extinguisher, fire retardant spray and maybe even a fireproof box to keep certain things in. The extinguisher is for smaller fires like those you might accidentally create while cooking, and the spray is to put on certain things to keep them from catching fire as easily. The fireproof box could be used for documents, valuables or anything else you want to keep safe. You might also want to keep a little money in there because that would definitely come in handy if there were a huge fire that ruined all of your belongings.
Unable to sell our home in the current housing market, my wife and I decided to become landlords and try to rent out our home. Actually, the whole process was surprisingly easy. We downloaded some free lease templates and found responsible tenants right away. The one thing we overlooked (until our tenants pointed it out) is that the new laws require installing a carbon monoxide detector in the hallway near the bedrooms. Apparently a smoke detector isn’t enough anymore. But fortunately we found an inexpensive one at the local home improvement store and installation was a breeze. So far we’re off to a great start and being a landlord isn’t nearly as intimidating as I’d feared.
Fires have decreased in frequency and severity since fire alarms and sprinkler systems became more common. However, the risk of fire still exists in every home. Electrical sparks from faulty wiring, lightening strikes, cooking spills, heaters close to flammable materials, candles and smoking butts in ash trays still have the ability to start fires. The loss can be minimized with actions taken today. • Train every member of your family who is old enough in the proper use of fire extinguishers. The knowledge to put out a small fire prevents it from taking over the whole house. • Store your personal papers in fireproof boxes. For greater security, use fireproof boxes/safes. This prevents important documents such as your Social Security cards, passports and cash from getting stolen or lost in a fire. • Install fire alarms in multiple locations in your home. Then ensure that they are in working order. • Teach your children how to safely exit every room in your house in case of a fire.
Tips: Install a secure fire grill in front of your fireplace to keep young children and their explorations apart. Train your children in the correct use of fire extinguishers as soon as they are old enough to handle one. Use the Boy Scouts, Red Cross and local fire department programs if you need help teaching proper use of fire extinguishers or in learning how to use them yourself. Check your fire alarms and fire extinguishers during daylight savings time shifts. Verify that the fire extinguishers are still pressurized and work properly. Ensure that the batteries in smoke alarms are fully charged and that the alarm is loud enough to be heard by everyone in the home. Create a family evacuation plan and then practice it. Teach older children where to take their younger siblings if the parents cannot get to them.
Every commercial building or establishment is provided with an emergency exit which remains safely latched by a bolt under normal circumstances. These bolts are referred to panic bolts as they have to be released during emergencies. But they can help save lives only if they can be opened instantly when there is an emergency. The emergency exits remain securely latched by panic bolts from the inside to aid people rush out by opening the door. This also prevents anyone from forcing an entry from the outside. In the past, these doors were secured by glass which had to be broken using a hammer during emergency and only then the bolts securing the door could be withdrawn to open it escape. But there was always the risk of trampling over broken glass, especially if the power supply is cut off. Also, the advent of toughened glass could mean breaking the glass may prove to be a difficult task. The ordinary glass, if used, could be broken accidentally, even by children. Today, using ceramic panic bolts has become very popular. The ceramic push bar panic bolts come as tubes that cover the emergency doors. During an emergency situation, the ceramic tubes can be easily broken and people can rush out without fear of trampling on broken glass.

In the past several years having carbon monoxide detector alarms are not only needed it is the law in many places. Carbon monoxide is an odorless gas that could be coming from a furnace that is not working or the duct work if it is not connected. Space heaters also are a source and if you have a natural gas stove the stove can give off fumes also. You have only so many parts per million and then if your air in your home is above that the alarm will sound. Move all the family and pets to fresh air immediately and call 911. Does not return into the home until the fireman tell you it is okay? You should plan ahead and make a meeting place such as a tree, for all your family to meet.
In a world full of electrical wiring and devices, people that smoke and assorted other possibilities for combustion, fire can break out at any time and place. It is essential that people in public buildings be able to exit those buildings quickly should a fire break out, and the normal exits may not be available. Fortunately today most businesses, government buildings, houses of worship and other buildings where people gather have special doors that are to be used only in case of fire or other emergency that necessitate a rapid exit. These “fire exits” that have door panic bars are usually in the rear of the building or at least away from the regular doors so that people who may be prevented from accessing the regular doors by the emergency situation can use them.
